“Midnight” from the Cinderella Suite by Sergei Prokofiev:
An excellent and dramatic depiction of the clock striking midnight at the ball.
I had the pleasure of seeing the London Symphony Orchestra perform the entire ballet score at their recent BBC Proms concert the other night – as usual, they were on top form, particularly the woodwind section and the excellent and surprising offstage brass ensemble that played from the balcony during one particularly exciting section.

Semi-Partisan Politics 
Sounds like an interesting piece, although I’m not sure it is my cup of tea. Nonetheless, I’m really quite jealous that you’re in a position to visit this great music festival. I may live in the capital of New Zealand, but that isn’t saying much. However, recently I was lucky enough to get front row seats to a concert performance of Wagner’s Die Walküre. That was an amazing concert, for sure – sitting a mere few metres away from the action. I’ll write a post about it sometime.

Moreover, I read that the concert you attended was conducted by Gergiev. Again, I’m jealous. I have a few of his recordings, which I really enjoy. He’s an extremely talented guy.

It was indeed! I like Gergiev a lot too, had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of times. I was very hesitant when I heard he was taking over from Sir Colin Davis as principal conductor a few years ago, given his thousand other commitments around the world, but he has done good things with the LSO and stretched them in new ways. This concert was no exception, I’m sure you would have loved to have been there. I think you can listen to a replay on the BBC iPlayer website if you want to. As a former trumpet player, the off-stage brass ensemble playing from the balcony were awesome 🙂
