Grieg Piano Sonata in E Minor, Op 7, second movement, performed by Glenn Gould:
Those final falling chords at the end of the movement (and the sense of stillness and reflection that they create) are rendered beautifully in this recording by Gould.
The whole sonata is well worth a listen.
Happy Friday, everyone.

Beautiful piece, that’s for sure. Are you a personal fan of Gould? I’ve listened to a lot of pianists and Gould is definitely one of my favourites. I love his 1981 recording of the Goldberg Variations, as well as his recording of the Well-Tempered Clavier.

I’m a huge Glenn Gould fan, have been ever since I discovered his recordings while studying at university 10 years ago!
I have an old recording of the Goldberg Variations performed by Rosalyn Tureck that I used to listen to for years and years, and while I still like it and return to it sometimes, to hear Glenn Gould play the same piece is like having a blast of sunlight and fresh air come into a dark and dusty room. He manages to strip away centuries of pianistic and interpretative convention and find the core “truth” in the music, in a way that very few others can.
I also have his “Well-Tempered Clavier” on my iPod and frequently listen to some of the preludes and fugues on my way to work in the mornings.

I find myself listening to Gould’s recording of the Well-Tempered Clavier all the time while I’m studying these days. It’s just so perfect and hypnotic at the same time; the perfect background music (if you can manage Bach, that is).
