As Guido Fawkes rightly notes, almost all British Members of Parliament managed to haul their asses back from vacation as the House of Commons was recalled to debate and vote on the government motion relating to the recent chemical weapons attack in Syria. For or against potential future military action by the UK, they gave principled speeches and made their opinions known.
WHERE THE HELL WAS OUR FORMER PRIME MINISTER, THE WALKING DISASTER, GORDON BROWN? If he has such contempt for Parliament and his constituents that he cannot be bothered to attend a debate like this, he should immediately resign his seat so that someone hardworking and capable can take his place. Sickening.

The people shouldn’t have to be generous! He should be grateful that the people elected him and it is his constitutional duty to represent the people and their interests.

Yes, that would be a normal way of seeing things – and a reasonable way. He should do his job to the best of his abilities, as we all should. However, overriding everything else in my life is this: that I know how generous God is with me. That I am forgiven everything without the bat of an eyelid. God doesn’t castigate me, announce my failings from the rooftops for all to hear. And so I cannot but have that generosity with everybody else. No matter what people do or don’t do my only attitude must be a generous one.

God cannot castigate you. It does not exist.

We don’t know what is going on in anybody’s life. There may be very good reasons why he wasn’t there. Let us be generous.

True. But Gordon Brown’s track record of attendance in Parliament since 2010 – to be very, very, very, very generous to him – has been appalling to the point of being insulting to his constituents and to British democracy. If he feels that, as a former prime minister, attending debates and sitting on the back benches is somehow now beneath him, he should resign his seat.

Perhaps it is for his constituency people, his leadership and his own conscience to pose the questions. Let us be generous 🙂 x
